There was no question about where I wanted to go to high school. I knew I wanted to be at Foothill High. My older brother had gotten in so I got in by default. Had my older brother not made it in, I still would have applied. Foothill has everything I was looking for.
The decision to come to Foothill was an easy one. When I attended my brother’s open house when he was a freshman, I realized what a great school it was. I especially was impressed with the Biology class, as science is my favorite subject in school. Everyone was nice and the school was small and easy to find my way around in. When it was my time to apply, I happily filled out the application. Since my brother was already here, I didn’t need to worry about whether I got in or not. Even though most of my friends were going to Ventura High, and I would have to take the bus to get to sports at Ventura, I still had no hesitation about where I was going.
For the beginning of high school, everything went well. The orientation was entertaining, and better than any orientation I’ve been to before. For your average orientation, you would expect to hear someone explaining all of the rules and consequences to not obeying these rules. For this, all of the teachers got together and let you run under a big tunnel that they held up as we walked into the assembly. I easily found my classes and the teachers were all nice. There wasn’t too much homework and the FIRE leaders were fun and helpful. Overall, it was a better start to the school year than middle school was. Everything went smoothly.
Now I am a Freshman at Foothill. Everything is going as I expected, and even beyond. The teachers are very fun, and are more into teaching the material than assigning extra homework. I had a handful of pretty good teachers in middle school, but looking back on it now, I would stay up late most nights just trying to finish all of my homework. At Foothill, all of the classes are on a block schedule so that means I have an extra day to work on homework in case I don’t finish, so I can get to bed on time. I have no regrets about attending Foothill at all. It is full of opportunities. The only down side is that I have to wake up earlier than I did in middle school, but even this can be a good thing. Instead of sleeping in late and feeling tired all day by wishing I could sleep in later, I have gotten used to getting up early, so I can wake up without any problem.
Overall, Foothill was the best choice. Aside from friends going to other schools, I can’t see how anyone wouldn’t want to come here. I am glad that I chose Foothill and I am sure that my future will be better because of it. I believe this will be a great year
